As you read through this site, you'll see that different levels of acupuncture exist (as defined by George Soulie de Morant). Even the lowest levels of acupuncture are known to be good for treating pain.
In fact, China uses acupuncture as the primary treatment for pain, and this has carried over to the United States where many acupuncturists specialize in treating pain. Furthermore, in the state of Colorado, chiropractors need only 100 hours of education and MDs have no minimum number of required training hours, you will notice that many of the under-trained practitioners specialize in pain. The reason lies in the fact that they perform simple protocols and local acupuncture for pain treatment, without the understanding of True Acupuncture. Plus, how much can you learn within 100 hours besides pain protocols?
Also, dry needling is a technique utilized by physical therapists and utilizes acupuncture needles, but this does not mean that it is an acupuncture technique (although some disagree). Currently, there is no specific training required by states for therapists to perform dry needling, a technique that inserts an acupuncture needle into a trigger point to cause a "release."
There are many practitioners besides acupuncturists who use acupuncture or acupuncture techniques for pain treatments. We encourage you to do your research to understand the depth of training and what the treatment ensues before you make a decision!
What one needs to realize is that most pain management with acupuncture relies simply on local needling or needling of distal tender areas based on protocols, and rarely does the practitioner spend the necessary time to locate a true acupuncture point which gives greater results that last much longer. Furthermore, without the proper understanding of the radial pulses, permanent lasting results is rarely obtained.
With Classical True Acupuncture you will see amazing results in your treatments for pain, acute or chronic.
